Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing websites for discovery in search engines. The end result is that the sites become more visible on search engine result pages (SERPs). SEO is an organic method of having a website appear higher than similar websites. The better your site conforms to the search engine algorithms, the better your site will rank.
Search Engine Optimizations help search engine results pages (SERPs) to be created and served to users when they search for something online using a search engine, such as Google. The user enters their search query using specific terms and phrases known as keywords, upon which the search engine presents them with a SERP.
Some SERPs will feature more organic results, due to the type of search. There are three types of basic searches, which have different intent. They are:
1. Informational – Find information or research.
2. Navigational – Locate a URL that you can’t remember.
3. Transactional – Conduct commerce. Paid results dominate this category.
Unlike SEO, Pay Per Click (PPC) focuses solely on the investment of an advertising budget to achieve prominent positions on SERPs. This is not as simple as merely throwing more money at a campaign, advertisers must think strategically to achieve proper results. Advertising results will be diminished by a website that has not been properly and methodically SEOed. PPC is when an advertiser has paid for keywords, so that their website is displayed higher than the competition. Paid results can take a wide range of forms and there are dozens of advertising formats that cater to the needs of advertisers.
Ever wonder how a business appears in the top right side of most search engines? The map and the business listings are shown because the business claimed or created a business page. Google calls theirs Google My Business Listing. The business location is shown on a map based on a user’s location. These directories are free and recommended to be used by all businesses.
On-Page SEO refers to the website and how it is configured to conform to the algorithms of the search engines. This includes detailed page tags and elements included in the headings, content and pictures. Including relevant keywords and phrases in each mentioned is a good start to optimal SEO. Off-Page SEO refers to strategies that can affect connecting to the website. Some of the techniques used include link building, social and content bookmarking and connecting to directories and indexes. The speed at which your website loads is very important, not only because it keeps the interest of customers looking at your site, but it affects how you are ranked by the search engines. This is typically the most overlooked item when building a website.
